Haversack Menswear AW10

Following our preview of Haversack’s SS11 collection not too long ago, here’s a look at the brand’s AW10 collection, which should start arriving at stores right about now. The menswear collection is made up of three lines: the Haversack label, inspired by military uniform, the Haversack General Garments with its nautical wear and the Haversack Attire label which is influenced by a more elegant look. Definitely one of our top favorite Japanese brands.

The new, 5th Journal de Nîmes is out today and this time the theme revolves around British brands. The publication includes an interview with Nigel Cabourn at his Newcastle residence, a review of new British denim label Tender and a ‘very personal denim interview’ with Miles Johnson, head designer of the Levi’s XX department among other stories. Our friends at Edwin Europe kept to their element for the shoot of their SS11 presentation, the latest in the brand’s non-conforming, independent spirited lookbooks. The ‘models’, Edwin guys’ friends and family, were photographed wearing the next spring collection in their natural habitat, allowing for a relaxed and casual lifestyle to come through. The photographs were not retouched, leaving the imperfections of life and dust present – a clear reference to the philosophy behind the brand’s core product – denim. Keeping it real, that’s the way we like it… take a look.

The gents from Not So Hard Work, the company behind Takuji Suzuki‘s ts(s) were kind enough to share with us a little sneak peek at the label’s lookbook for spring/summer 2011. The model on the left is wearing: an Italian over dyed linen slub 2 button 3 patch pocket piping jacket, Italian over dyed linen slub stand collar shirt jacket, Italian over dyed linen slub drawstring wide pants and an over dyed plain stripe cotton oxford western tie. The model on the right is wearing: an Italian linen*cotton*cashmere herringbone over sized zip front short jacket, over dyed plain stripe cotton oxford B.D. shirt, stone washed high density cotton canvas cropped work pants and an Italian small crest printed cotton stretch neck tie. We weren’t able to go to Bread&Butter ourselves, but (and thank god for the world wide web) if we take Fashion Buyer UK word for it ,which we tend to do, spring/summer 2011 most prominent men’s denim trends are:

1. Ripped and repaired – heritage denim labels started popping out archive pieces in recent seasons to flaunt their pedigree. Those without it copied the look…

2. Even lighter washes – more about worn-down dyes than super light looks.

3. Shorts – the hotter the climate, the shorter the denim… mostly cut-offs rolled at the knee for men.

4. Cinch back – vintage/heritage detailing dug out of the archive once in a few years.

5. Waistband detailing – that’s a new one! Elasticated and drawstring waists on denim… what’s next? Drawstring waist denim shorts? Oh yeah, Acne Jeans already did it this summer.

6. Carrots and crotches – extremely tapered leg and a drop-crotch. Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but that’s too eunuch for me!

Wrangler’s premium jeans sub-brand, Blue Bell, continue the innovative digital presentation of their collection with the launch of the new BB FW10 website. This time, renowned male model Tony Ward, wearing the dark, sophisticated denim of Blue Bell’s Fall/Winter collection, is chased in a dark, damp, industrial landscape. Viewers can throw him from a ladder, tear his clothes off, make him jump and roll – all thanks to clever interactive technology, which allows you control and dictate Tony’s movements and clothing. The collection is dark as night, inspired by rockabilly perfectionism, the 80s-influenced-by-the-50s, and thrift store Americana. Colors are black, grey and white, with dark indigo a signature of the brand.

Red Collar Project Fall/Winter 2010

Entitled ‘Last Letter Home’, after the book by Famous Swedish author Vilhelm Moberg, Red Collar Project’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection finds inspiration in the hard-working Swedish farmer and the hopeful settler in the new country (America), both featured in the Moberg story.

The classical workwear shirt is a key piece, together with rustic knits with elbow patches which create a feeling of ‘make do and mend’. As a contrast to the typically Scandinavian style, the lumberjack look comes in with its classical flannel checks for shirts and as inventive details on more traditional garments. The color scale is soft with neutrals such as khaki, different shades of grey, off-white and black, mixed with denim blue, navy, royal blue and mustard. Contrast colors are grass green, deep red and lilac.

EDUN Fall 2010

The fall 2010 EDUN men’s collection is inspired by pieces you might find in an artist’s closet. Classic waffle tweed woollens take modern shape in a military jacket worn with a released hem pant featuring raw, fluid edges to make for a relaxed worker silhouette. The statement piece this season is the surface treated cotton, military trooper parka. An ideal layering piece over a crinkled poplin shirt and sheer cotton Henley paired with a waffle tweed trouser. The naturalist color palette ranges from denim in Rothko Granite, jackets in Clay and Moss, and cotton jersey shirts in Rain Heather and Dusty Black. The jeans are finished to emulate oil layers and quartz, influenced by Rothko paintings. Overall, this collection explores finding beauty in imperfections, much in the way artists are inspired by the irregularities in nature.

In 1996, G-Star launched their iconic model – the Elwood. This revolutionary denim pant fused an articulated-knee design, taken from motocross trousers, with the functionality of work-wear pants. Evolving this approach, G-Star then introduced the Arc Pant. This highly architectural cut features a low-crotch and straight-hip, with an asymmetric tapered leg. The result is a silhouette built for a 3-D human.

For Spring/Summer 2011, G-Star continues to evolve this new 3-D denim design language. For men, the Charlie Loose Tapered combines 3-D leg architecture with a 7/8ths length; a curved waistband adds comfort, while deep, full-length rear pockets add a functional touch. Innovation, however, is not only reserved for 3-D denim. G-Star continues to re-imagine the traditional 5-pocket style with fresh features and distinctive G-Star twists. The Bullit pant for instance, offers a triple-stitched waistband, rubberized details and triangular back-seam insert.
