BBB | G-Star S/S 2011 Preview

July 11, 2010

Detail from G-Star's Bread&Butter Booth

In 1996, G-Star launched their iconic model – the Elwood. This revolutionary denim pant fused an articulated-knee design, taken from motocross trousers, with the functionality of work-wear pants. Evolving this approach, G-Star then introduced the Arc Pant. This highly architectural cut features a low-crotch and straight-hip, with an asymmetric tapered leg. The result is a silhouette built for a 3-D human.

For Spring/Summer 2011, G-Star continues to evolve this new 3-D denim design language. For men, the Charlie Loose Tapered combines 3-D leg architecture with a 7/8ths length; a curved waistband adds comfort, while deep, full-length rear pockets add a functional touch. Innovation, however, is not only reserved for 3-D denim. G-Star continues to re-imagine the traditional 5-pocket style with fresh features and distinctive G-Star twists. The Bullit pant for instance, offers a triple-stitched waistband, rubberized details and triangular back-seam insert.

Three Over One S/S 2011 Lookbook

July 9, 2010

Three Over One SS11

Heavily inspired by the photography of Irvin Penn, particularly his 1951 series “Small Trades”, where he photographed a wide range of people in a stark studio environment wearing their everyday working attire, Australia’s Three Over One spring/summer 2011 collection continues with designer Jim Thompson celebration of the working man in a range of rugged yet elegant menswear.

The collection consists of unstructured tailoring with cropped fitted jackets and pleated relaxed fitting pants. Denim jeans are in the best Japanese Selvedge qualities with authentic fits and styling. Shirts are in soft washed linens and cottons and knits are influenced by vintage under garments and early athletic wear.

Interview | Örjan Andersson, Cheap Monday

July 8, 2010

Örjan Andersson

Cheap Monday’s founder and creative director Örjan Andersson talked to Sportswear International about his love for denim, future plans and the Swedish brands retail rollout:

A few weeks ago, Cheap Monday started its tour again. For the first time it took place at different locations and stores at the same time. What was the event like?

It was a total blast with release parties in 13 stores simultaneously. We put the tour under a “construction” theme and we wrapped the entire stores in plastic and hung the jeans down from the ceiling. We will definitely re-run events like that.

Last year Cheap Monday opened its first store. Why did you start your rollout in Copenhagen?

We found a location and a space that we really liked and which suited the concept perfectly. We also love the city of Copenhagen.

What are the strongest markets and how many POS does Cheap Monday have worldwide?

Cheap Monday’s strongest markets are Italy and Scandinavia. CM has 1,600 doors worldwide.
